Topic: “Community Initiatives For Kidney Disease Prevention: How can High School Students Lead Awareness Campaigns.
My family, particularly my daughters are my greatest supporters. Right after that I would say its the BKA. I have learned so much since coming to the meetings.
I appreciate the BKA for these meetings. They have made me more informed. With the information I am able to inform others and inspire them to be better.
Hello I am Nessa .. The BKA has been a much needed support. They think of even the small gaps for a dialysis patient, like the need for socks & blankets. They give sound information at our community meet ups and share with others going through the same issues.
I've always wanted to be a part of the greater good. Being in the health care industry I know that help in any form will benefit our people. Just being a part of the association helping to bring awareness to KD , and helping to push the agenda of the association is my way of giving back.
I joined the BKA to help in educate my community on their health. Meeting the team has been a privilege. Their passion gives me an extra drive as a dialysis nurse. They regularly deal with kidney related issues and the difference they make in patient’s lives is inspiring. It gives me a greater push to bring awareness to persons in my life and in my profession. I am in awe of how dedicated the volunteers are in taking care of their health for future health benefits. It helps to inspire others.
I proudly support the BKA because of the unselfish, truly altruistic work. Not only does the BKA bring community and public awareness to Kidney Disease, but also the BKA work with vested partners inclusive of the medical professionals, civic and religious organizations and most importantly the person afflicted with kidney disease/failure and their families.
I joined the BKA after my youngest sister, aged 53, died of renal failure. A few weeks prior to her death she experienced many challenges with the port, coupled with having to maintain scheduling time for dialysis treatment. This was stressful for me as I was her caretaker.
As a senior in high school I had to choose a non-profit to offer my services to. I decided to volunteer at the BKA as I had a personal connection to the organization. My grandfather has kidney disease. While attaining the community service hours for my Bahamas Highschool Diploma, I was also able to learn more about CKD and the effects it has on those afflicted by it, like my grandfather.
I love volunteering at places with such great initiatives!! BKA was the kind of organization I wanted to be a part of because it promoted awareness and prevention tips for a condition that a large percentage of the Bahamas population suffers from. As a type 1 diabetic I’ve known for a long time that without proper care it can eventually lead to Kidney disease.
